Chaos Scarab

Description

I don't usually just share my stuff, but this is such a nice bit of plunder from the fair and I thought you might like it =P It can be worn on a necklace and as a pin! I never want to take it off
It's also a nice example of how I almost instantly assign meaning to things, especially jewelry. Almost all my necklaces mean something special to me. Just rambling, sorry for the wall of text - for those who read it, I just want to share why I love this beasty so much.

Seeing this scarab I was instantly reminded of Nyarly, of course. Looking closer at the head there's a little skull and cross, which initially had me doubt buying it, but then I thought of Arkham, its graveyards and the gates to weirder things opening underneath... the triangle and moons to me stand for the Dreamlands with its mysterious temples and strange heavens.
Moving to the elytra and away from Earth, there's suns and moons over angular designs. Now, this guy Lieju translated Nyarlathotep's name to hieroglyphics to the best of his (amazing) abilities lieju.deviantart.com/art/The-D…, and it came out as something pronounced Nahaarahotep, which means 'he who pleases the sun-god and the moon-god'... (also works really nicely to reconcile my sunny and dark-loving sides, hehe).
The body underneath the elytra sports a nice geometric design which reminds me of Azathoth, the center of chaos. So in a way, Nyarlathotep (being the Mighty Messenger) is opening the gates away from the waking world and even the Dreamlands, on to ultimate chaos in this wonderful piece of jewelry. The spread wings, to me, feel like how he's guided me through Lovecraft's books and opened up all those gorgeous vistas of dream, madness and horror. Wouldn't have wanted to miss them for the world...

Ramble over. I know, I'm a nutcase. =P Blame the Crawling Chaos I say!
